Hi,
ROOT now follows a pattern that's pretty common out there: before publishing the next production release v5.30 end of June, we will have two release candidates: v5-30-00-rc1 and -rc2. Only corrections will go into the release branch between these release candidates and the final release. RC1 has just been published.
Bertrand even invested the effort to build ROOT for all the usual architectures (minus two - MacOS ppc and SLC4 are dropped). They can be found at our download page and at /afs/cern.ch/sw/lcg/app/releases/ROOT/5.30.00-rc1/.
We hope that you find the time to test this candidate: we put some extra effort into making it happen, and that only pays off if we hear back from you! So please give us your bug reports :-)
These are busy times - several new topics ripen to be ready for a new blog entry: I will talk about the new TextInput library that was born a few weeks ago (sort-of-like-readline, but platform independent including windows, bringing multi-line editing and colors to ROOT on cmd.exe), about the C++ standards committee (again), about a new ROOT version number scheme, and of course about progress with cling.
Cheers
