News! News! News!

Hi!

Sorry for having been blog-lazy; first New Year's resolution: more posts.

This time I'll spread two revolutionary news items; they are "officially" public but hey, that doesn't mean everybody knows :-) It's on Rene and Fons, and no, you guessed wrong :-)

Rene will start a new project to evaluate technological alternatives to event simulation. It's called Geant, and it will involve elements from Geant4 and ROOT, with a few new things added, shaken, and within a year we'll see a prototype - that's what he says. He will present his ideas at a public meeting on the 16th.

As ROOT and Geant would be too much even for Rene, Fons will be the new ROOT team leader. Fons is the co-founder of ROOT. He and Rene have been working together since ages; nothing will change. Or better: ROOT will keep on revolutionizing :-)

We have the ROOT production release 5.28 coming up, probably still next week. It has several very nice new features, e.g. out of source builds, a first step in the direction of iOS support, and - less geeky and more relevant: amazing improvements in the performance of ROOT I/O (now also CPU time) and a few new classes, e.g. TH2Poly, TEfficiency and TKDE for kernel density estimation. This is a completely biased shortlist, please see the release notes for the full story.

Cheers,
