Most likely you built ROOT with `./configure --prefix=<something>' and with debugging disabled, or perhaps you took the Debian GNU/Linux packages. Is that right? As Rene pointed out, you need to give a bit more information to allow others to help you out.

If installed as mentioned above, then the problem was a bug in ROOT - in TGFSComboBox to be exact. The problem was a character array that was never terminated properly causing illegal access to memory, and could potentially result in a buffer overflow vulnerability. The bug has been fixed in CVS HEAD.

If you're update to the latest Debian packages (5.13.03-1) then the bug should be fixed.
