cannot run root after installation

Dear rooters,

I've been using v5-24-00 without any problems up to now (running on Scientific Linux 2.6.18, 32-bit version).

Unfortunately I failed to install the same version on SL 64-bit. After the unsuccessfull attempt even the 32-bit installation seemed to be corrupted:

'/usr/local/bin/root.exe: error while loading shared libraries:
libCint.so.5.24: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory'

this massage followed after typing 'root' into my shell. I reinstalled but the problem persisted. Now I end up with:

'/usr/local/bin/root.exe: error while loading shared libraries:
libCore.so.5.24: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory'

or

'rootn.exe: error while loading shared libraries: libNew.so.5.24: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory'

I can find both libNew and libCore where they should be, e.g. in /usr/local/lib/root

thanks for any ideas
cheers
