Hi, Thiemo - take a look at VNC. For me, going from West coast Canada to CERN makes a whale of a difference compared to ssh-tunneled X11 (double tunnel, ssh to lxplus, then ssh to final machine). There is a trick for connecting VNC through the CERN firewall, see my instructions here:
