tick length of TGaxis

Dear ROOTers,
does anybody know how to increase the length of the ticks of a TGaxis? SetTickSize(...) does not seem to do anything. For TAxis SetTickLength(..) does what I need. I am using version 4.04.02g, but in 5.10/00 the attached macros does not have the desired effect, either.
