This is what worked for me:
TGCompositeFrame* Parent = Tab->AddTab("Materials Properties");
fCapFrame = new TGCompositeFrame(Parent, 60, 20, kHorizontalFrame);
ULong_t back= TGFrame::GetBlackPixel();
fCapFrame->ChangeBackground(back);
