Use the script $ROOTSYS/tutorials/hadd.C (or
<prefix>/share/doc/root/tutorials/hadd.C) 

BTW, a search on "Adding Histograms" on the ROOT website, gave as the
first hit:

A quick search usually gives you the answer to such questions.
