Hi Nick,

  we are looking into the ALPHA problem. For the time being it is quite
simpe to rebuild root.exe without libNew.so:

cxx -O -o root.exe `root-config --cflags` $ROOTSYS/include/rmain.cxx
`root-config --nonew --libs`
