Hi,
thanks to your reply I found out that you can set (for xterm) the
following resources in ~/.Xresources :
xterm*VT100.Translations: #override \
Ctrl<Key>Left: string(0xe2) \n\
Ctrl<Key>Right: string(0xe6)
and then Ctrl-Left will go one word backward and
Ctrl-Right " " " " forward
Maybe rxvt and gnome-term also have to be modified like xterm above. Since
I don't have them, I can't check.
So this was not a ROOT related problem. Sorry for mixing this mailing list
up.
