Notifications and interests

The Compound Document framework uses a notification mechanism to track changes in documents. These changes are normally changes in the data contained within a model.

Clients of models (for example, presentation objects such as menus or content views) typically need to be notified of all changes made to the data that they depend on contained in a model.

Notifications are created by models, anchor markers, links, and model data. These notifications are given to the model's notifier to forward to interested clients.

A content view can connect to a model to receive notification on specific changes, or all changes, to a model's data, styles, anchor markers, links, and selections. Objects like a content view or menu item can track changes to an associated model's data and remain synchronized with the model's underlying data.
